How to use this calculator
A dollar-cost averaging projection shows how a starting investment and equal recurring deposits might grow under a steady assumed return. Enter your own contribution schedule and compare total deposits with the modeled ending value.
How the calculation works
For each contribution period, the model converts the effective annual return to a periodic rate: (1 + annual return)^(1 ÷ periods per year) − 1. It grows the balance for the period, then adds the contribution at period end.
Worked example
With a $1,000 starting amount and $100 monthly deposits for one year at a 0% assumed return, total deposits and ending value are both $2,200.
Assumptions and limitations
This is a smooth-return scenario, not a historical backtest. Actual investments fluctuate, returns can be negative, contribution dates matter, and fees, taxes, and inflation are excluded.

Does dollar-cost averaging guarantee a better result?
No. The comparison depends on market returns and timing. This calculator only illustrates the selected steady-return scenario.
