How to use this calculator
Enter each holding’s current value and target percentage. Compare a full rebalance that can include buys and sells with a cash-only scenario that directs new money to underweight holdings.
How the calculation works
Current allocation = current holding value ÷ current portfolio value. Target value = post-cash portfolio value × target allocation. Required trade = target value − current value. Cash-only rebalancing is feasible only when no position needs a sale and the entered cash covers the required purchases.
Worked example
A $100,000 portfolio with $80,000 in stocks and $20,000 in bonds has 80% and 20% current weights. A 60% / 40% target implies selling $20,000 of stocks and buying $20,000 of bonds before costs.
Assumptions and limitations
Target allocations must total 100%. This does not choose an allocation for you and excludes taxes, trading costs, minimum order sizes, price movement, and account restrictions.

Frequently asked questions
Can I rebalance without selling?
Sometimes. The calculator checks whether adding cash can bring every holding to its target; an overweight holding means a cash-only plan cannot reach the target.
Does the calculator recommend a target mix?
No. It only compares the targets you enter with the current values. Allocation decisions depend on your circumstances and risk tolerance.
