How to use this calculator
Enter the savings balance available for withdrawals, the amount you expect to withdraw each month, an optional annual rate assumption, and a projection horizon.
How the calculation works
At each month end: interest = starting balance × annual rate ÷ 1,200; ending balance = max(0, starting balance + interest − withdrawal). The estimate stops when the balance reaches zero or the selected horizon ends.
Worked example
With $30,000, a $2,500 month-end withdrawal, and 0% interest, the balance supports 12 withdrawals. The final withdrawal reaches zero exactly; fees, inflation, and changing withdrawals are not modeled.
Assumptions and limitations
Assumes a constant nominal rate credited monthly before each month-end withdrawal. It excludes taxes, fees, inflation, market losses, and changing withdrawals. A projected runway is not a retirement-income plan or guarantee.
Frequently asked questions
Does this tell me how much I should withdraw?
No. It models the amount you enter and does not recommend a withdrawal rate.
What if savings are not depleted within my horizon?
The result reports that depletion is beyond the selected horizon and shows the modeled ending balance.
